How do 3000 square miles of lakes, rivers and forest give a child the
peace and stillness they need to find their best selves?
How do 3000 square miles of lakes, rivers and forest give a child the
peace and stillness they need to find their best selves?
It starts with Algonquin Park, where for three generations Arowhon campers have been gathering at the same campfire site. When children live on a lake where loons pierce the silence with their song, a part of their character un-nourished by city life flourishes.
Since 1934 Arowhon has been drawing out the love of learning - and resulting self-confidence – in every
camper. Arowhon nurtures and challenges children so they discover new parts of themselves: A seven year old windsurfs across the lake - and back! A 12 year old goes on a horseback cookout and feels he's conquered the wilderness. A 15 year old gets the constant support she needs to practice for her sailing award every day for a month - and she gets it.
Our 2:1 camper:staff ratio allows us to give each camper individual loving attention. Campers choose their own activities daily; the only option not available is inactivity. Campers make the friends of a lifetime, while mastering the art of group living. They learn to sail, windsurf, ride horses, canoe, canoe trip, climb walls and use the ropes course, kayak and play tennis. They do arts and crafts, act in camp plays and fall under the spell of the wilderness.
We have a well equipped Infirmary, a doctor and two RN’s in residence. We offer both vegetarian and lactose free special diets.
