Get ready to party on Sesame Street

By Christine Davis

This weekend the way to Sesame Street is via Rose Cherry Place as the Sesame Street community takes over Mississauga’s Hershey Centre on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 24 and 25.

This all-new, interactive show unfolds on one of the world’s most famous streets and you and your gang are sure to enjoy it as much as mine did.

During the show the Sesame Street crew discover that choosing a party theme is more difficult than they expected – but true to nature your favourite characters, including Oscar and Cookie Monster – will dance and sing their way to a solution.

Oscar’s song about loving trash is one I’ve known and loved since I was a child and seeing my kids enjoy it was great, as was Cookie Monster’s rendition of “C is for Cookie”. A Cookie Monster hat was a necessity for 2-year old Jack.

Predictably, when Elmo takes the stage the crowd goes wild! He seems to still be a favourite and given his ability to dance in this show it’s no wonder why.

Newer characters such as Rosita and Abby add their own unique flair to the show and Abby’s magic is a favourite for my 4-year-old daughter, Isabelle.

Of course be prepared for a loud event – kids are encouraged to get up and dance, sing and play an interactive round of “Grover Says”. It’s all in good fun and enjoyable for the whole family.

The show runs about an hour and 15 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission before the first and second acts.

Saturday’s 6 p.m. show, as well as Sunday’s 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. shows include optional pre-show experiences. These require an additional ticket for each person attending and begin an hour and 45 minutes before the main show. Each pre-show experience lasts approximately 45 minutes and provides the opportunity to take a stroll along Sesame Street, meet Elmo, Oscar, Cookie Monster or Abby, have a photo taken and enjoy other on-site activities.
